David Boon
David Boon joined the Australian Cricket Team in 1983, commencing a Professional sporting career that would make him a household name. "Boonie" with his trademark moustache, is considered to be one of Australia's best ever cricketers with statistics including 107 Test Matches, 7422 Runs, 180 One Day Internationals and 300 1st Class Games.
David holds the second highest number of Test Matches played (107), behind former Australian Captain Allan Border (156). Quite possibly Tasmania's all-time favourite cricketing son; David Captained Tasmania at both ends of his career and was at the helm when his state enjoyed its most fruitful ever first class season in 1997-98. He is widely recognised as a vital ingredient in Australia's resurgence as a cricketing power in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Boon also led Durham in English county competition between 1997 and 1999, guiding the side to its best ever finish in the County Championship in the last of these three years. After retiring from Test cricket in 1996 and all cricket in 1999 David continues in Cricket with a position in marketing with the Tasmanian Cricket Association in Hobart. His legend also lives on at the NTCA ground in his home city of Launceston where a major stand has been named after him.
